20 July 2009 -Home Section [ pg 1] - Hawkers fall prey to brazen break-ins

[a] Why is it easy for burglars to break into stalls at the two markets in the kallang area ?

It is because the roof of their stalls are opened which means it is exposed to the burglars and leaving the thief getting into the stalls easily.

[b] What is the Geylang East Central Merchants Association going to do about the break-The ins ?

The Association are looking into improving security by modifiying the affected stalls layout and design . The National Environment Agency said that interested stall holders can also apply to them to add security features like grilles

2.What do you think should be done to tighten the securitey of the markets ? What do you think of the burglars who brazenly break into the stalls ?

I think the stall holders should install CCTV in their stalls to also portect their stalls from burglars and I think if neccessary , they should hire security gurads to watch overnight their stalls . I think the burglars who break into those stalls are smart but they are also stupid at the same time because they are risking their safety when climbing over into the stalls and those burglars will also feel guilty taking the stallholders 's hard earned money
